Constructed on the site of Walton Hospital in North Liverpool, Clock View has been designed to provide accommodation and communal facilities for 85 adult in-patients with acute mental illness and dementia. The design allows for a steady, yet engaging, series of spatial transitions from the comfort of the en-suite bedrooms and private inner courtyards, to the centrally located shared facilities, offices and semi-private outer courtyards.
Completed in early 2015, I was commissioned to photograph the project before patients had moved into the new wards. Even though the shoot was during winter, the external landscape was already eloquently displaying a degree of maturity and giving a hint of how the architecture and its landscape will positively impact on the patients' everyday lives in the future.
